The new version will add support for offline Achievements and the ability to see if you can join friends in their games, along with "additional UI features," according to a Microsoft statement.

Five games have been announced as supporting the updated service, including Sega's The Club and Universe at War: Earth Assault, Eidos' Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, and Microsoft's own Gears of War and Viva Piñata.

Games for Windows Live was recently upgraded to version 1.1, adding support for Russian, Polish, Czech, Norwegian and Dutch languages, 12 new gamer pics, and a new Network Information Viewer to provide a simpler way to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
