LOGIN 2009 Conference
Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell doing a keynote.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEATTLE, Washington, March 18, 2009 - Evergreen Events is delighted to announce the Thursday, May 14th keynote speaker for the 2009 LOGIN Conference. Jesse Schell, the accomplished Professor of Entertainment Technology at Carnegie Mellon University and CEO of Schell Games, will be delivering a lunch keynote address explaining the complicated relationship between interactive entertainment, violence, culture and sociology. The 2009 LOGIN Conference will be held May 11th-14th 2009 in Seattle, Washington at the fantastic Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel, as an innovative event designed to facilitate education, networking, and entertainment for the leaders of the business and development online game industry.
In his keynote, "Make Games Not War", Mr. Schell will discuss how "it is very possible that widespread online games are changing people, and therefore, society, in subtle ways. But how? Will the constant playing of war games train us all to be killers, or will the cooperation these games require break down cultural barriers, and teach us to get along with strangers? Or both? This talk examines the paradoxical futures that online gaming may bring us, and makes some suggestions about how to use them to save humanity from itself."
"Jesse Schell represents the kind of unique voice we enjoy bringing to attendees at LOGIN. He has one foot set in academia and another set in game development, a mix of experience that keeps his point of view fresh and ahead of the curve. We have no doubt this keynote address will be remembered for years to come as a high standard in excellence and insight," proclaimed Cynthia Freese, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Evergreen Events.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of LOGIN — there are lots of conferences out there where you can hear what happened last year in the world of online games, but LOGIN is the only conference where you can hear about what is going to happen in the future," said Jesse Schell about his participation in the 2009 LOGIN Conference.
Jesse Schell has taught Game Design and led research projects at Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center ( http://www.etc.cmu.edu) since 2002. Jesse is also the CEO of Pittsburgh's largest videogame studio, Schell Games ( http://www.schellgames.com), the author of The Art of Game Design: a book of lenses ( http://www.artofgamedesign.com), and the former chairman of the International Game Developers Association ( http://www.igda.org). In 2004, he was named one of the world's Top 100 Young Innovators by Technology Review, MIT's magazine of innovation. Before coming to Carnegie Mellon, he was the Creative Director of the Disney Virtual Reality Studio, where he spent seven years as designer, programmer and manager on several projects for Disney theme parks and Disney Online. Before that, he was a software engineer at IBM and Bell Communications Research, and a writer, director, performer, juggler, comedian, and circus artist for both Freihofer's Mime Circus and the Juggler's Guild.
