Life is Strange: Before the Storm takes home two Games for Change awards

Every year, Games for Change presents awards to a handful of games that the organization deems to have made signficant contributions to social impact and learning. At the awards event last night, Life is Strange: Before the Storm took home two awards, with Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and What Remains of Edith Finch also among those honored.

Variety reports that Life is Strange: Before the Storm was awarded for Most Significant Impact, as well as Game of the Year (which encompasses all three of Games for Change's categories: impact, gameplay, and innovation). What Remains of Edith Finch was the winner for Best Gameplay, and the VR game Tree picked up Most Innovative by placing its audience in the perspective of an actual tree through its life cycle.

Attentat 1942, a game about World War II through the eyes of its survivors, was awarded for Best Learning Game. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was the Games for Change x Polygon People's Choice Award winner.

Notably, New York mayor Bill de Blasio attended the celebration to declare June 28, 2018 "Games for Change Day" as a part of the organization's three-day event.

"For 15 years, Games for Change has encouraged the top minds in tech to develop digital games that can bring about positive social change," Mayor de Blasio said. "I am proud to join with all those gathered here to applaud Games for Change, all of this year's award winners, and everyone participating in the festival for their commitment to forging a better tomorrow for us all."
