Leslie Benzies leads "significant six figure investment" in audio firm Krotos
Audio company is famous for its monster sound tech
Audio tool firm Krotos has secured a 'six figure' investment deal.
The Edinburgh-based company which operates the Dehumaniser voice processor for creating monster sounds, has obtained the investment from former Rockstar exec Leslie Benzies and Old College Capital (the investment arm of the University of Edinburgh). The GTA Online creator is in the process of launching his own business to create the Everywhere project, with studios in Edinburgh, LA and Budapest.
The audio firm says it already has deals with Disney and Warner Bros, and this investment will allow it to double its headcount to 20 and increase its suite of Pro Audio tools. It hopes to reach consumer markets in both VR and gaming communication.
Its Dehumaniser tech has been used in a variety of film, TV and games, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jungle Book, Far Cry 4, Doom and League of Legends. It was created by CEO Orfeas Boteas whilst studying his Masters degree for Sound Design at the University of Edinburgh.
"The next few years will open up exciting possibilities for new media, as audio is now more challenging than ever with Virtual Reality, Augmented reality and Mixed reality," said Boteas. "Video games and films are our core market but there is massive potential in VR and that will be an important focus for us moving forward."
Andrea Young, Fund Manager of Old College Capital, added: "Krotos is an exciting new company with potential to grow rapidly and deliver real economic impact in Edinburgh. This deal highlights the potential of student-led enterprise and it is great that the University through Old College Capital is able to take a stake in the company and share in its future success."
