League of Legends players raised $6m for charities they'll pick

Players will vote to determine which nonprofits the money raised in their region will support

League of Legends players have raised a total of $6 million for Riot Games' Social Impact Fund, with the money to go to multiple charities that the players will vote on.

From April 10 through 23, League of Legends players will be able to vote for one of three nonprofits specific to their region, with those receiving the most votes getting 50% of the regional charity pool, and the others receiving 25%.

Each nonprofit (there are 46 in total) will receive a minimum of $10,000.

"As a global organization, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to serve players from diverse backgrounds around the world and we feel an innate responsibility to operate at a hyper-local level," said Riot Games president Dylan Jadeja.

"We believe that leveraging our platform to give players agency in choosing the causes that matter most to their local communities is incredibly meaningful, and hope to continue finding opportunities to empower our players to give back in ways that resonate with them."
