Largest charity tournament in mobile esports history kicks off on March 3

Mobile esports platform Skillz sets itself $100,000 target

In a pledge to raise $100,000 for breast cancer research, leading mobile esports platform Skillz has announced the largest charity tournament in industry history.

Kicking off tomorrow (March 3), all proceeds from the tournament will benefit Susan G Komen, the world's largest breast cancer organisation.

Women have become the driving force behind Skillz, making up over half of the platform's 12 million users and filling seven of the top ten competitor spots.

"As esports eclipse the revenue and spectatorship of several offline sports, it is our responsibility to lead this nascent industry by example," said Andrew Paradise, CEO and founder of Skillz.

"One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and by supporting Susan G. Komen the Skillz platform will contribute to change."

To date, Susan G. Komen has invested more than $956 million into research that has helped reduce breast cancer mortality rates in the United States by 39 per cent over the past 25 years; it aims to reduce current breast cancer deaths by 50 per cent in the US by 2026.
