8th GC - Games Convention

20 - 23 August 2009

(Press & Trade Visitor Day: 19 August 2009)

Leipzig, 17 October 2008

An Italian premiere: Italy's first developer conference for video games is being held in Milan on 21 and 22 November 2008. The Italian Videogame Developers Conference (IVDC) provides professionals from the Italian game industry with a get-together where they can find out about the latest trends and market developments. The event will be opened by Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of the Leipziger Messe and organiser of the world's biggest gaming fair, the GC – Games Convention in Leipzig.

Just this August, the seventh edition of the GC achieved a new record with 203,000 visitors, playing its way to the top among the industry's most important events. In his opening speech, Marzin draws on this unique success story and based on the example of the GC, discusses the momentum created by leading international fairs. Together with a detailed analysis of the market, Marzin will describe the prospects for future developments within the computer and video game industry.

The IVDC programme is divided into three parts. There will be talks on the two topic areas of independent and professional game development. The two-day conference comes to an end with a discussion session which takes a close look at the Italian developer scene. Leading representatives of the Italian game industry have accepted invitations to take part as speakers (including from Artematica, Milestone, Ubisoft Milan) as well as Italian developers. Those already confirmed, for example, are Andrea Pessino of Ready at Dawn (God of War: Chains of Olympus), Marco Corbetta from the German developer studio Crytek (Cry Engine 2) and Alessandro Bartolucci of Infinity Ward (Call of Duty).

The IVDC is being held in conjunction with the Italian video game festival Ludic@rena which takes place from 21 to 23 November 2008 in the DatchForum of Assago in Milan. Alongside the introduction of current games software, visitors can look forward to several LAN parties, gaming competitions and casemodding presentations. The organiser is the Italian Association of the Interactive Multimedia Industry, AIOMI. Detailed information is available at www.ivdconf.it.
