Cologne, January 6th, 2010 – The Intel Extreme Masters is coming to Asia in its fourth season, bringing the best gamers from Asia, Australia and New Zealand to the 2010 Taipei Game Show. From February 5th – 9th, 2010, the Taipei Game Show will open its doors at the Taipei World Trade Center, attracting gamers and business professionals alike. A total prize purse of $49,000 for Counter-Strike 1.6, World of Warcraft and Quake Live will be awarded to the best players at the Asian Championship alongside invitations to the World Championship for the winners and runners-up of each title. In World of Warcraft, the bronze medalist will also be invited.

Taipei Game Show (TGS) attracted over 300,000 visitors in 2009, making it one of Asia's leading trade fairs for games. TGS offers five days of fun and entertainment to gamers of all kinds, from online games to PC or console games. With its strong local game industry and its close ties to the thriving Chinese market, Taipei Game Show is the ideal host for the Intel Extreme Masters Asian Championship.

The Intel Extreme Masters Asian Championship will feature eight contenders for Counter-Strike 1.6, World of Warcraft and Quake Live, respectively who will be selected after an application period. The highlight of the event will be the World of Warcraft competition - another chapter in the the fierce rivalry between teams from Taiwan, South Korea and China.

The tournament will be played on the world's most reliable gaming laptop, the M17x provided by Alienware, the official laptop of the Intel Extreme Masters.

The Intel Extreme Masters World Championship will be held at CeBIT 2010, the world's biggest technological trade show, taking place annually in March in Hanover, Germany. Players and teams from the Americas, Europe and Asia will represent their respective regions and fight for a piece of the global prize purse of $530,000 and the title of a World Champion.
