Google veteran Daniel Alegre named Activision Blizzard COO and president

Coddy Johnson remains in advisory role; additionally, Blizzard lead writer Michael Chu departs

Activision Blizzard has named former Google president of global retail and shopping Daniel Alegre as its new president and COO.

Alegre worked at Google for over 16 years, beginning as vice president in charge of opening Google Latin America in 2004 and holding multiple presidential roles across the company in the following years. He has also held leadership roles at Bertelsmann and BMG Music.

Beginning April 7, Alegre will replace current president and COO Coddy Johnson, who will remain with Activision Blizzard as a special advisor to the CEO.

Additionally, Blizzard writer Michael Chu announced his departure from the company today after a total of 20 years.

Chu began as a quality assurance analyst in November of 2000, and after leaving for a designer role at Obsidian Entertainment in 2004, returned in 2005 as a senior game designer for World of Warcraft and Diablo 3.

He most recently worked as the lead writer on both Overwatch and its upcoming sequel, Overwatch 2.
