15th October 2010 - The action genre is always one of the most popular and fiercely contested in the people’s gaming awards, Golden Joystick Awards. It's not surprising to find the biggest blockbusters once again doing battle for the prestigious award of  Action Game of The Year sponsored by Nuts.

Fast-paced, over the top action, expertly crafted environments and some of the most memorable characters in the history of gaming appear in this category and 2010 has thrown up an exceptionally strong field of contenders. 

This year, established blockbuster franchises like ‘ Assassin's Creed’, ‘God of War’  and  ‘Uncharted’  go head to head with powerful new contenders ‘ Batman: Arkham Asylum’, ‘ Bayonetta’, ‘Heavy Rain’ and ‘ Red Dead Redemption’. ‘Just Cause 2’, ‘Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction’  and  ‘Super Mario Bros Wii’  complete a stellar line-up that attracts one of the biggest and broadest audiences in gaming.

Action gaming is constantly evolving genre but in the past 12 months it has taken even further massive strides. With a field of amazing and innovative games offering bold new takes on interactive storytelling, movie-like interaction, stunning new visual effects and some of the most high-adrenaline, explosive gaming experiences ever.

The categories in the Golden Joystick Awards are voted for by the only people who matter – the gamers themselves. Known as the ‘people’s gaming awards’ it is also held in high esteem in the global video games industry with nearly 1,000 executives attending the glittering ceremony, which will this year be held at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel on 29th October 2010.
