God of War PSP launched in the US

Sony's new SKU is bundled with red console, God of War game, a PSN voucher and UMD movie

Sony Computer Entertainment America has released a new SKU for the PlayStation Portable handheld to commemorate the success of God of War: Chains of Olympus.

The console unit itself is red, decorated with an image of the game's protagonist, Kratos, on the back, and the bundle also includes the game itself.

Additionally, for the recommended retail price of USD 199.99 gamers will pick up a PSN voucher entitling them to download Syphon Filter: Combat Ops, as well as a UMD of comedy movie Superbad.

A recent admission from David Reeves, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president, outlined a concern that the PSP lacked quality titles, but the Corporation will be hoping that the release of the new hardware SKU will spur sales - as happened with the launch of additional colours in Japan over time.

There was no word from SCEE on any plans to release the God of War SKU, or similar, in Europe.
