Horizon: Zero Dawn hits 2.6m sales

Developer Guerrilla now working on a 'story expansion'

Sony's latest new IP Horizon: Zero Dawn has hit 2.6m sales worldwide, the platform holder has announced.

That's sold through to consumers, both via disc and download. It is the fastest selling Guerrilla game ever, beating all of its previous Killzone titles. It is also the fastest selling first-party new IP released on PS4, putting it ahead of No Man's Sky. The title launched at the end of February in the US.

The firm is now preparing add-on DLC to help establish the brand as a franchise and satisfy the audience. The title topped the charts in many territories around the world.

"We're thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike," said Guerrilla MD Hermen Hulst. "Developing the game was a labour of love, so it's extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development.

"This is only the beginning of Aloy's story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story."

Chairman of PlayStation's worldwide studios Shawn Layden said: "We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying. Guerrilla has created a game that is nothing short of exceptional, and the reaction we have seen from fans - from hours and hours of gameplay streaming to endless photo sharing - shows just how impactful it has been."
