GamesAid names 6 charities to receive £29k each

Industry fund raising body GamesAid has named the six charities which will benefit from its patronage this year, with each scheme receiving a cheque for £29,000 each - a 74 per cent increase on last year's total.

The charities which garnered the most votes from GamesAid members in the recent round of voting were: Action for Kids, which provides essential equipment to improve the lives of disabled children; Jigsaw4u, which focuses on helping traumatised children recover and re-engage with their environments and Lifelites, which helps to entertain and care for terminally ill young people in hospices.

Special Effect, which prototypes and builds technology which enables the handicapped to enjoy videogames was also selected for funding, as were child support service MAPS and The Willow Foundation, which takes seriously ill children on field trips and days out.

"We are delighted to be donating to these six charities, all of whom do an extremely valuable job of helping children and young people in the UK" said GamesAid chairman Sarah Seaby.

"It's also gratifying to see the amount of charities that are helped and the actual amount of money increasing year on year."
