GameCity

Rock Band developer Harmonix to attend this month's event in Nottingham.

2nd October 2008 -  Nottingham, UK - GameCity, the world's most exciting independent game festival, is proud to announce a celebration of one of the most innovative and successful game developers in history: Harmonix. From early ground-breaking games like Frequency and Amplitude to the world-conquering Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Harmonix has consistently pursued a creative, inclusive vision for videogaming which has helped shape the modern industry.

As part of the launch activities of the National Videogame Archive, the developers of Harmonix have been invited to GameCity to discuss the studio's beginnings, their unique understanding of videogames and the legacy of their creations. 'For us, games have always been part of a wider cultural context, and the GameCity festival is the perfect expression of that - somewhere people who love games can come together and celebrate the impact they've had on their lives." Explains Sean Baptiste, Manager of Community Development at Harmonix.

Harmonix, alongside other speakers and attendees, will also be making inaugural donations to the National Videogame Archive's "Save The Videogame" campaign, which aims to ensure that the precious artifacts of this emergent cultural force aren't lost forever. Festival-goers will have a chance to witness and participate in the foundation of a collection which will form part of our national heritage.

And, because we never miss the opportunity for a party, we'll be turning this year's GameCitizens into the ultimate rock band, with a massive Harmonix celebration gig where you get to take the stage. An entire evening of live music, every song will be performed on one of Harmonix's games - from the electropop of Frequency through to the rock classics of Guitar Hero, and from the hits of Karaoke Revolution to the free-for-all of Phase - this will be a unique evening where games and music come together like never before. Head over to www.gamecity.org now to make sure you don't miss your chance to witness - and maybe even participate in - an unforgettable event.
