GAME to sponsor 2009 BAFTAs

Retailer will run the only publicly-voted award at UK event

UK retail chain GAME is the major sponsor of the 2009 British Academy Video Game Awards, taking place March 10.

GAME will run the only publicly-voted award of the event, for best game of 2008, with shortlists to be revealed on February 10.

"The partnership between GAME and the Academy is a perfect one," commented David Parfitt, chairman of the Academy.

"We are committed to recognising creative excellence in this art form and, since part of our charitable remit is to showcase the artistry behind videogames to the wider public, we cannot think of a more fitting sponsor.

"We look forward to working closely with GAME to bring the BAFTA-nominated and BAFTA-winning titles to the attention of huge audiences, not just here, but overseas too."
