Facebook seeks head of games

Recruiting new exec to improve developer partnerships

Social network Facebook is to coalesce its gaming strategy, having revealed plans to recruit a head of games partnerships.

Although the site attracts some 200 million gamers per month, it has until now resisted appointing gaming-specific executives.

The successful applicant to the high-profile new role will "develop and enhance successful partnerships and influence internal and external partners and industry stakeholders in the Gaming industry."

The holder of the position will report to Ethan Beard, director of the Facebook Developer Network.

Speaking to VentureBeat on the matter of Facebook's tendency to introduce sudden and contentious rule changes for third-party applications, Beard said "We have evolved from the classic two guys in a garage. As those social game companies have grown up, we have to evolve what our team looks like as well. Hopefully, we will become more and more predictable when it comes to games.

"[The new position] is a great opportunity for a superstar to shape how we work with our partners in the social gaming space."

Beard also confirmed that more gaming positions would become available at Facebook soon.
