Evo 2020 cancelled

Organizers pull the plug on July-August event in Las Vegas, plan an online replacement

Evo 2020 organizers stuck to their plans for the Las Vegas fighting game tournament for weeks in the face of COVID-19, but finally relented today.

The cancellation was announced in a post on the event's official Twitter account.

"Due to COVID-19, we are sadly cancelling Evo 2020 at Mandalay Bay and refunding all purchased tickets... The health and well-being of our community is our highest priority. We hope everyone stays safe during this time."

Evo 2020 had been set for July 31 to August 2. Organizers are also planning an online replacement event this summer "to keep the Evo spirit alive."

After the postponement of GDC and the cancellation of E3, Evo 2020 organizers had originally planned to go ahead with the show, saying in mid-March that it was moving forward to hold the event as planned.
