Electric Square opens Singapore studio

New office joins studios in Leamington Spa and Brighton

UK-based game developer Electric Square has opened a new studio in Singapore.

The new office is currently boasts 13 employees, and the developer -- which is owned by outsourcing giant Keywords Studios -- says it plans to expand this headcount to 50 by 2022.

The news follows Electric Square's second studio opening in Leamington Spa last year. The company, which started as a spin-off from Studio Gobo, is headquartered in Brighton. It has launched Forza Street for Microsoft and Hot Wheels id for Mattel, amongst other projects.

The Singapore office is led by Julien Girard-Buttoz, and features talent that's worked with the likes of Bandai Namco and LucasArts.

It also marks Keywords' expansion into offering game development services in Singapore. It already offers Functionality QA, Localization, Localization QA and Player Support.

"We're delighted to expand the Electric Square family," said Julien Girard-Buttoz "Singapore is a major player in the region for game development. The innovation and training ecosystem, the experience and talent of local developers and Singapore's desirability as a location for attracting talent from all over the world, position Electric Square in the ideal environment to grow and deliver world-class content and experiences."

Electric Square head of studios Jon Gibson added: "Opening the Singapore studio has been an important milestone in the growth of Electric Square. There's a shortage of experienced developers in the industry, so in order to recruit top talent we wanted to establish a presence in the world's leading gaming hubs. We have studios in Brighton and Leamington Spa, two of the UK's leading development communities, so Singapore was a logical next step, being a leading light for game development talent and services in Asia."
