EA Sports restructures development process

All Sports titles to be supervised by one team in the wake of cuts

The development process of EA Sports titles is to undergo restructuring, with one team supervising the production of all assets before sharing them with individual studios.

Previously, EA Sports titles had been produced at a number of satellite studios, including EA Tiburon and EA Canada. The general manager positions at both of these studios have now been rescinded to accommodate the restructure.

Phillip Holt, who was general manager at Tiburon, remains at EA - Moira Dang, who was general manger of EA Canada, does not.

EA confirmed it would be making a small number of staff changes last week following the release of its quarterly financial results.

"We're making organisational changes to our development team at EA Sports that will be better for the franchises and better for our people," read a statement to 1-Up.

"We continue to pro-actively evolve our team to better position ourselves with improved product quality and growth in revenue for our shareholders, to share technology and lower our development costs, and to pioneer new innovation in digital experiences for our consumers.

"As part of this transition, we have eliminated the site-based general manager roles at EAC and Tiburon."

The move comes in the wake of the cancellation of NBA Elite 11, which was being produced at EA Canada but was pulled from release schedules.

A source reportedly told 1-Up that instead of general managers being attached to studios, one would now be assigned to each sporting franchise instead, reporting directly to senior vice president of EA Sports Andrew Wilson.
