E3 public tickets sell out

Traditionally trade-only show should have 15,000 public attendees as ESA confirms it has sold through its fan passes

The Los Angeles Convention Center will be a little more crowded than usual for this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. The organizing Entertainment Software Association today announced that it has sold out of fan passes to the traditionally trade-only event.

The ESA announced the fan pass program in February, saying it would be making 15,000 passes available for $250 each, or $150 for early bird purchasers. In addition to access to the show floor, the fan passes will give attendees the opportunity to attend the E3 Coliseum series of panel discussions as well as other unspecified events. The ESA is also still offering business passes that include catered breakfasts and lunches, as well as a handful of access perks for $995 each.

Member of the public have been allowed into E3 previously, but this is the first time the ESA has made it accessible through a simple ticketing program. In 2015, the organization allowed member companies to collectively invite up to 5,000 fans and influencers it dubbed "prosumers."

E3 2017 will take place June 12-15.
