Five million DS users worldwide have connected to Nintendo's Wi-Fi service playing more than 200 million game sessions since launch in November 2005.

The free service is now featured in over 60 DS titles, connecting users to multiplayer gaming and opening up VoIP communications.

"Nintendo DS gamers globally use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as an easy, fun place to find fellow players, all without paying anything extra for the service," commented Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America.

"The milestones represent millions of hours of fun and camaraderie despite miles between players."

Nintendo's own research shows that DS purchases by female consumers have increased by 42 per cent in the last 18 months, with sales climbing 127 per cent for those over the age of 30, and up 212 per cent for consumers aged over 35.
