Following the announcement that hardware sales have boosted Nintendo's profits by more than 40 per cent, the platform holder has revealed that more than 10 million DS units have now been sold in North America.

According to Nintendo, that means consumers have snapped up nine handhelds every 60 seconds since the DS launched in November 2004 - making it the fastest-selling console in the world.

In total, more than 35.6 million DS units have been shifted worldwide - 14.4 million in Japan, 10.2 million in the US and Canada and 11 million in other territories.

Nintendo has also announced the North American software line-up for 2007, which is comprised of more than 20 titles. First-party games include Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Diddy Kong Racing DS and Wario: Master of Disguise, all due out over the course of the next three months.

January will see the release of Atari movie tie-in Arthur and the Invisibles, plus the sequel to Capcom's Phoenix Wright. Titles for February include two Disney-licensed games from Buena Vista, plus Lunar Knights and PES 7 from Konami.

BVG is set to publish three more DS games in March, while Konami will release Steel Horizon. Other notable titles for the month include Ubisoft's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Majesco's Cake Mania.
