Dark Souls has sold over 2.3 million units

From Software's tough RPG cut against the grain and found success

From Software's sleeper hit Dark Souls has sold more than 2.3 million units to date.

The PlayStation 3 version of Dark Souls was launched worldwide by Namco Bandai in October, 2011. It hit Xbox 360 in August of last year, and received an elaborate special edition to coincide with the release of an expansion, Artorias of the Abyss.

According to figures released by From Software's executive director, Eiichi Nakajima, at a recent conference, the various versions of Dark Souls have sold 2,367,000 units. Around 692,000 of those units were the Prepare To Die Edition.

A sequel, Dark Souls 2, has been announced, but Namco Bandai Games has yet to announce a release date. But Nakajima did confirm that Dark Souls 2's Xbox 360 version will be available in Japan at launch.
