Climax confirms games dev ended in Santa Monica

Climax has confirmed that its Santa Monica studio is no longer producing videogames, with the department now reorganised as a 'dedicated business development hub'.

The developer announced last year that it was scaling down its operations in the US following the sale of its racing division to Disney.

Contrary to internet reports, the company will still maintain a small presence in the region, although all development duties have been moved back to the UK.

"Climax today confirmed that it is has completed its last game development project in it's Santa Monica studio and will now complete the conversion of that operation into a small, dedicated business development hub as part of its strategy to reorganise the group into a single studio / single location operation," the company said in a statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz.

The statement added that Karl Jeffery, CEO of Climax was, "very pleased with the way the management in Santa Monica had handled the transition," and is "looking forward to having a more streamlined company where games are the focus, rather than spending so much time and effort running a far-flung group of studios."
