Byron Review to be published March 27

GamesIndustry.biz has learnt that the Byron Review — the government's anticipated study into the effects of violent imagery and content in interactive media — is due to be published on March 27.

GamesIndustry.biz has learned that the Byron Review — the government's anticipated study into the effects of violent imagery and content in interactive media on children — is due to be published on March 27.

It's expected that government ministers and Dr Tanya Byron, TV presenter and author of the report, will meet with the press next Thursday, although details of an event are yet to be confirmed.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport confirmed the date to GamesIndustry.biz this morning.

Expectations are high that the Byron Review is going to help legitimise the industry in the face of government and traditional media, which often attack videogames or blame them for larger problems in society.

A number of industry executives have spoken to GamesIndustry.biz about their concerns, suggesting that any government recommendations to stop mature content falling into the hands of minors must be backed up with industry initiatives and parental education.
