Blizzard to donate more than $250,000 to Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Overwatch's Pink Mercy charity skin will drive fundraising, alongside livestreams and more merchandise

Blizzard has kicked off a charity event in its flagship shooter Overwatch in an effort to raise money for cancer research.

The firm has released a new pink-themed skin for popular character Mercy, promising that 100 per cent of the proceeds from its sales will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Already confident about sales, Blizzard has pledged a minimum donation of $250,000.

The skin will be available until May 21st, and will be central to a number of other initiatives designed to raise both funds for the charity and awareness of breast cancer itself.

Blizzard is also selling a Pink Mercy t-shirt, releasing themed Twitch Drops and player icons, plus Twitch emotes to help signal the campaign to all Overwatch players and viewers. Again, 100 per cent of the t-shirt sales will go to the charity.

To grab further attention, Blizzard is working with a range of streamers and content creators to host online events and broadcasts that will show Pink Mercy in action.

The skin itself is available to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners from today. Blizzard will release the final total raised after the campaign concludes on May 21st.
