Resolution Games no longer participating in Oculus in-headset ad test

“After listening to player feedback, we realise that Blaston isn't the best fit for this type of advertising test.”

Virtual and augmented reality developer Resolution Games is no longer taking part in an Oculus in-app advertising trial.

Resolution Games was set to test in-app ads inside VR shooter, Blaston. However, the company has reconsidered the move following feedback from the community over the last week.

"After listening to player feedback, we realise that Blaston isn't the best fit for this type of advertising test. Therefore, we no longer plan to implement the test," the company said via Twitter.

"To make it clear, we realise that Blaston isn't the best fit for this type of advertising test. As an alternative, we are looking to see if it is feasible to move this small, temporary test to our free game, Bait! sometime in the future."

The test, set up by Facebook, will go ahead with "a couple" of developers testing in-app ads inside the Oculus ecosystem, though the two companies have not been named yet.

In the original announcement, Facebook said that the method could lead to a new revenue source for developers.

"This is a new innovation in the advertising industry, and it's still early days," Facebook said. "We're currently investing in unobtrusive ads as a new way for developers to build businesses -- and though we're not quite ready to test them yet, we're also exploring new ad formats that are unique to VR."
