Zordix acquires Merge Games

The Swedish company is to acquire all the shares in the UK publisher and developer to "strengthen its publishing capacity"

Merge Games has announced it's being acquired by Swedish publisher Zordix AB.

The company will purchase 100% of the shares in the UK-based developer and publisher for an undisclosed sum.

By doing so, Zordix aims to bolster its publishing capacity, while Merge hopes to "further accelerate its growth through collaboration with other companies within the group," the announcement said.

Merge Games was created in 2010 and has since published and distributed titles such as Darkest Dungeon, Dead Cells, and Streets of Rage 4. It also specialises in collector's editions via its Signature Edition brand, which has worked on titles such as Cloudpunk and House Flipper.

Zordix AB acquired Invictus Games last year and is also the parent company of Dimfrost Studio and Zordix Racing.

Luke Keighran, co-founder and managing director of Merge Games, commented: "We are extremely proud to be joining the Zordix group today. We see great synergies between us. Merge's wide range of publishing and distribution experience combined with the Zordix group's ambitions will enable us to expediate our growth over the coming years."

Founder and CEO of Zordix Matti Larsson added: "We are very happy and proud today to welcome Merge Games to the Zordix family. I am greatly impressed by Luke and Joanne's [Keighran, co-founder] ability to jointly develop such a successful publishing business for an international market.

"The fact that they are driven by the same enthusiasm as the other entrepreneurs in the group to build a profitable and expanded business together is absolutely fantastic. With Merge Games, an important piece of the puzzle is in place that means that we will achieve really great success in the future."
