BigBox VR secures $5 million in seed funding round

Funding to support development on upcoming VR battle royale game Population: One

BigBox VR has announced it has secured $5 million in seed funding to help develop its upcoming battle royale VR game, Population: One. This brings the total funding raised by the company so far to $6.45 million.

Shasta Ventures led the funding round, with partner Jacob Mullions joining the BigBox VR board of directors. Contributions also came from GSR Ventures and Pioneer Square Labs Ventures.

"We're excited to team up with partners who believe in accelerating VR online games and esports," said BigBox CEO Chia Chin Lee. "It takes boldness to build products and communities that define emerging platforms, and we have the perfect team and investors to bring that vision to life."

BigBox VR is currently working on Population: One, a VR battle royale game that is planned to launch with cross-play across HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality devices. The company has said that both community play and esports appeal are key factors in the direction of the game's development.
