AOL's Thomson and EA's Breen join Outplay board

Studio launches two new Facebook titles, adds EA and AOL veterans to board

Social developer Outplay has added two new members to its executive board in the shape of Karen Thomson, formerly of AOL and Vodafone, and Randy Breen, ex-creative director at EA.

"Karen and Randy bring a wealth of complementary experience and expertise to Outplay Entertainment," said CEO Douglas Hare.

"Karen's marketing background and track record with large-scale consumer-facing internet and mobile businesses combined with Randy's remarkable creative, production and business expertise will be invaluable to Outplay's ambitious growth plans for 2012 and beyond. We are thrilled to have them on board."

In the past new non-executive chair Thomson has held the role of both CEO for AOL UK and president of AOL Europe, and launched the internet service in the UK in 1995. She has also worked as director of Vodafone UK, and is currently a non-executive director on the board of UBM.

"I chose to join the Outplay board because I believe Douglas and Richard have the vision, passion, drive and experience to create huge business opportunities as well as fantastic entertainment properties," she said.

"I am delighted to be involved with such a forward thinking company and look forward to working with Outplay to create rich gaming experiences that bridge the gap between mobile and online platforms."

Breen will act as non-executive director spent 14 years with EA as executive producer and creative director, and five with LucasArts. He's worked on titles like Fade To black, Escape from Monkey Island, Rogue Squadron, and Knights of the Old Republic. Until April of this year he was CEO of Social Gaming Network.

"Social and mobile gaming have only begun to show their full potential, and I believe Outplay are well positioned to become a major player in the industry," added Breen.

"I've known Douglas and Richard for more than a decade and having seen what they and the rest of the Outplay team have accomplished since April and what they have planned for the future, I'm very excited to be part of the board."

Outplay launched its first studio in April and this week saw its debut titles, Word Trick and Booty Quest, appear on Facebook.
