Amazon drops Wii price to £139 in UK

As Play.com pushes up the price of new official Wii Sports Resort hardware bundle

Online retailer Amazon has dropped the price of the Nintendo Wii to £139.99 in the UK.

The store is clearing stock as it introduces the new official Wii bundle for the region – a £179.99 package that ships with Wii MotionPlus, Wii Sports and its sequel Wii Sports Resort.

With the old £179.99 SKU selling out, some retailers in the UK are taking the opportunity to ask more for the latest official bundle from Nintendo - despite a drop in trade price, Play.com is selling the standard Wii Sports Resort bundle for £199.99.

While the price for Wii hardware has risen for UK consumers, Europe, North America and Japan all benefited from a price cut last month.

Savvy consumers can still take advantage of a competitive market, with some retailers such as GAME and HMV adding extra software to the Wii Sports Resort bundle and keeping the price at £179.99.
