A Way Out sells 1 million in two weeks

Hazelight Studios' EA Originals co-op prison break game wastes no time hitting milestone

The EA Originals program has a hit in A Way Out. Developer Hazelight Studios announced in a tweet today that the game has hit 1 million copies sold since its launch last month.

"We just found out that #AWayOut has sold over 1 million copies, in just over two weeks," the studio said. "Words cannot describe how much this means to us. Thank you to all of you for your support!"

A Way Out is the first game from the Swedish studio. It was formed in 2014 by the core team behind Starbreeze Studios' 2013 release Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. (Brothers sold more than 800,000 copies in a year and change, before the IP was sold to 505 Games for $500,000.) The exclusively co-op game casts players as a pair of prisoners who must work together to escape.

It is also part of Electronic Arts' EA Originals initiative, in which the publisher helps fund games from smaller studios and allows them to keep the profits. Other EA Originals titles include 2016's Unravel and Fe, which released in February.
