PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds sells three million units on Xbox One

Battle royale game proves successful despite being plagued by bugs and technical issues

PlayerUnknown's Battleground has sold three million units on Xbox One in a single month, Microsoft has announced.

The game launched in Xbox Game Preview, a program similar to Steam's Early Access, on December 12. It's worth noting that PUBG is the only title on Game Preview that doesn't offer a free trial.

PUBG's strong sales on Xbox One have been in spite of numerous technical issues and bugs which have beset the console version of the game since day one.

"The team at PUBG Corp. is determined to continue to improve the in-game experience for PUBG's growing and active community and have already released four updates since the game's launch," said Microsoft.

Our colleagues at Digital Foundry found that "it is far from the finished article in its console form," noting that it performs poorly on both Xbox One and the supercharged Xbox One X.

These drawbacks don't seem to have had much of an impact on the game's popularity however, which will doubtless grow at the staggering rate we have come to expect from PUBG over the last nine months.
