NEW YORK, NY, April 7, 2009 -- World Cyber Games (WCG), the organizer of the world's largest and most inclusive international computer and video games festival, has opened online registration for the WCG USA 2009 Championship Season. This year the winners of the online qualifiers will feed directly into the WCG USA 2009 National Final. "We've received a tremendous amount of feedback on how to evolve the USA program and this is our first step," said Aaron Smolick, Director of Marketing "We wanted to give every gamer a fair and equal shot at going directly to the WCG 2009 National Final no matter where they live in the USA." Registration is free and gamers can sign up for as many games as they wish. Gamers are encouraged to visit www.wcg.com/usa to sign up for their favorite games. Additional WCG USA games will be announced in the next few weeks, so keep checking into the WCG USA website to see if your favorite game is included.

The WCG will also be hosting the first of a series of one-off events starting with the first-ever WCG Fighter Club. The event will take place April 25th and 26th at the Samsung Experience located in the Time Warner Center, 10 Columbus Circle, 3rd floor in New York City. The WCG Fighter Club will crown elite gamers in four of the top fighting games on the market: Capcom's Street Fighter IV, Tecmo's Dead or Alive 4, Namco's Soul Caliber IV, and Sega's Virtua Fighter 5. The top two finishers for each game during the competition, which will be shout-casted and available on video on demand, will receive cash prizes and Samsung Digital Cameras. To sign up, players can register at www.wcg.com/usa. Additionally, there will be walk-up opportunities for those players who did not register online, depending on available openings.

"We wanted to kick off the WCG USA events this year with a bang and the WCG Fighter Club will deliver just that," said Paul Brewer, Marketing and Operations Manager. "These elite fighting titles will attract the best gamers in the country to the Samsung Experience for the first of what we expect will be an annual event."

Beyond the amazing competition, the event will feature appearances by the contestants from Sci Fi Channel's hit reality television program - WCG Ultimate Gamer. Brought to you by Granada America, World Cyber Games, Samsung and Sci Fi, WCG Ultimate Gamer airs on Tuesdays at 10 EST. The exciting 8-episode elimination-style reality series features a diverse group of top gamers who embark on an intense and emotional journey, all hoping to win a prize package that includes $100,000 and the ultimate Samsung electronics package. The winner will also become the face of the WCG and represent the world's largest video gaming organization in events around the globe, including the 2009 Grand Final in China. Additionally, there will be giveaways, random drawings and contests to all fans who attend the event.
