Xperia Play coming to UK networks this April

'PlayStation Phone' to be available on O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange

Sony Ericsson's newly confirmed Xperia Play handset, previously known only as the PlayStation Phone, will be hitting UK shops this April, if news reports and tweets from the major UK networks are to be believed.

Four of the country's mobile carriers have now confirmed that they will be providing the Xperia Play, with Vodafone and O2 joining T-mobile and Orange in their support of the device. The only major UK network yet to confirm that it will be selling the handset is Three.

The reports come from various official tweets from the networks, alongside inside sources quoted by technology blog Pocket Lint. An April release would mark a quick turnaround to market for the Xperia, which was finally officially confirmed earlier this week after featuring in a prime time TV ad during the Superbowl on Sunday.

The device is an Android platform, with a sliding shell containing the familiar branded PlayStation buttons and D-pad. Sony has promised full technical details on February 13.
