Winter Solstice show

World of Warcraft composer David Arkenstone to stage concerts this month in San Diego and Thousand Oaks.

For Immediate Release

Sherman Oaks, California – December 13, 2010 – On the heels of the World of Warcraft®: CataclysmTM launch and his Visions of Christmas album release, 3-time Grammy Nominee David Arkenstone and his band are bringing their popular Winter Solstice show to San Diego (December 18) and Thousand Oaks (December 19)! Join them for a festive evening of Celtic inspired holiday music as enchanting versions of holiday favorites are performed alongside David’s original compositions to create an unforgettable evening of magical music to warm you for the holidays.

With over one million albums sold and 20 Billboard New Age Chart hits, Windham Hill artist David Arkenstone is known for his masterful blend of cinematic new age rock and world music. This award-winning multiinstrumentalist has captivated audiences since he broke onto the music scene in with his debut album, Valley In The Clouds, in 1987 and earned two #1 albums - Citizen of Time (1990) and In the Wake of the Wind (1991). Adding to his diversity, David has a worldwide following as one of Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft® on-line game composers, including CataclysmTM which was just released on Monday. Thriller choreographer Michael Peters created a ballet to Valley In The Clouds in celebration of the Winnipeg Royal Ballet’s 50th Anniversary. David’s Celtic Book of Days remains one of his most popular recordings ever. Often compared to Mannheim Steamroller and The Chieftains, David has made 30 recordings, headlined several tours, shared the bill with Michael Crawford which included New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, scored dozens of films and documentaries, and composed music for the Olympics that is used to this day.

A musical storyteller, David is passionate about taking his listeners on a journey, creating sonic tapestries that evoke every emotion. Critics hail his music as “full of thunder and feeling,” yet a “dreamy soufflé” of layered acoustic instruments and voices, which sends the listener on a “joyous expedition.”

With so many recording commitments, David’s had little time to tour and is excited about going out on the road again. "One of the most exciting things about performing live is the interaction I get with the audience. It's very different than making a recording, where you're never sure who is listening to it. The communication is complete in live performance, plus it’s plain old fun to play these songs with my friends again, and the audience senses that. A lot of the roots of our musicianship come into focus without the magic of studio editing – it's the moment, you play your best, and many times reach new heights, and then it's gone, and on to the next one..."

After coming to California from rural Chicago at age 10, David immersed himself in all the music he could find. Spending high school and college in various bands and performance groups, he then criss-crossed the country several times playing popular music. He finally settled down to concentrate on developing his own sound. And  when computers and instruments could finally communicate to each other, David knew his time had come. He could now hear a good portion of what he could imagine.
