Wii and DS hardware sales continue to climb in Japan

Despite seasonally low sales and a shortage of units at retail, the Nintendo DS and Wii are still the best-selling consoles in Japan, according to new figures from Media Create.

Sales of the DS climbed by over 16,000 units to 127,542, while the Wii saw sales grow by almost 6,500 to 58,644, for the week ended May 27

Sales of Sony's PSP dropped by over 1,400 units to 26,097, while the PS2 rose by over 400 units to 11,311. The PlayStation 3 sold 9,627 units, a climb of just under 1000 units.

Despite the release of Forza Motorsport 2 in the region (debuting at number 11 in the charts), sales of the Xbox 360 only managed an increase of 18 units, bringing the total to 2,044.

Software sales for the same week saw two new entries in the top ten, with Bandai Namco's Kekkaishi: Tale of the Raven Forest entering the charts at number one and Sony's Bleach: Heat the Soul 4 debuting at number two.
