Whybuygames acquires Gameshare

Game rental service expands and notes 400% year-on-year growth

UK-based game rental site Whybuygames.com has announced that it has acquired game-swapping network Gameshare in an attempt to create a nationwide community for second-hand goods transfer.

Whybuygames will therefore now offer its users the opportunity to exchange unwanted titles with other members of the network for a small fee, a move that the company hopes will be particularly popular in the slow economic environment.

"With today's current economic climate looking grim, we wanted to increase our market share and customer base without taking too much of a financial risk," said Aaron Barrett, products and services director for Whybuygames. "Having looked around the UK at several brands, acquiring Gameshare gives us both these factors, as it's an established company with a customer base of thousands of dedicated gamers."

And Kevin Hacker, MD of Gameshare, added: "We wanted to move forward with the brand and Whybuygames was the right step to take. They've built an established site with excellent customer service and have the industry knowledge and innovative ideas to build our brand massively."

Whybuygames also revealed that it had seen average weekly customer base growth of 4 per cent, and was on target to announced 400 per cent growth by the end of the year. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
