Wakfu

French youngsters' favourite TV series soon to be available in Germany too.

Roubaix, France - March 15, 2010 - The latest Kids TV Report ranks Wakfu as the most watched series by French youth (4-14 years). The series will air on the German channel RTL 2 this summer.

The most popular series among French viewers between 4 and 14 years of age:

Having being voted best animation studio of the year by the international festival Cartoons on the Bay for its work on Wakfu, Ankama sees the success of its series confirmed once more with the release of the latest Kids TV Report (Eurodata TV Worldwide). This places Wakfu as the top series among French viewers between the ages of 4 and 14 years in the 2nd half of 2009. Released in late February, the Kids TV Report presents and analyses the performance of youth programs on the biggest channels in the five major European markets for animation: Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.

An innovative method for producing a successful series:

Wakfu the cartoon, broadcast since late 2008 as part of France 3’s youth programming schedule, is the result of a synthesis of traditional animation – done by hand - and 2D computer animation techniques. Based on the same legend as the online game Wakfu, the television series recounts the adventures of Yugo, who sets off in search of his origins, and finds himself saving the world along with his friends. It garners on average 1 million viewers each week.

Wakfu the animated series - soon in Germany:

In the summer of 2010, Wakfu the TV series will be broadcast for the first time in Germany, exclusively on RTL 2. A daily Wakfu quiz will be held at the Leipzig Book Fair on the RTL 2 stand (H 505), while over on the Ankama stand (G 401), participants will find the answers to the quiz questions, and win gift packs containing, among other treats, figurines of Yugo, the hero of the series.

Story:

Wakfu is a world destroyed by the tears of a sad, lovelorn ogre, Ogrest, in which a child with mysterious powers, Yugo, goes in search of his origins and his people: the Eliatropes. During his journey, he is joined by other travellers: Ruel Stroud, an old, crafty, avaricious bounty hunter, Percedal, a young, brainless, but exceedingly brave warrior, Amalia, a fugitive princess as beautiful as she is rebellious, her bodyguard Evangelyne, who is much more down-to-earth, and finally his most faithful companion, Az, a greedy, clumsy but loyal Tofu.
