Ankama proclaimed "International Studio of the Year" at the Cartoons on the Bay festival in Italy.

Roubaix, France – February 25, 2010 – Ankama, creator of the acclaimed MMORPG DOFUS ( www.dofus.com) is pleased to announce its election at Cartoons on the Bay as International Studio of the Year for its work on Wakfu, its recent animated series and global cross-media project.

To mark the occasion of the 2010 edition of Cartoons on the Bay, the International Television and Cross-media Animation Festival in Genova - Italy, Ankama will receive an award for its revolutionary cross-media project and high quality animated series Wakfu, which has received critical acclaim for every new episode, and reached an audience share of 20% on the 4+ on France 3, the French public television network.

Ankama is proud to receive the International Studio of the Year award. « This award gives us the recognition of our professional peers and increases our confidence in our chosen creative process. Wakfu is the first illustration of our ability to create a cross-media universe. Other projects are underway which we hope will further expand the limits of the user experience in this direction» says Emmanuel Darras, co-founder of the Ankama Group.

« We chose Ankama for their unique cross media vision inside the animated series world and for their ability to effortlessly weave different audiovisual genres together. » , said Roberto Genovesi, Artistic Director of Cartoons on the Bay. « Cartoons on the Bay is honored to bestow the International Studio of the Year award to Ankama after realizing that this European company has a great capacity for anticipating future developments in the field. »

This award recognizes Wakfu as a revolutionary cross-media project that combines animated series, comics, trading card game, online and console games, community websites and mobile services: all conveyed in an all-embracing and family friendly universe.

Wakfu is a world destroyed by the tears of a sad, lovelorn ogre, Ogrest, in which a child with mysterious powers, Yugo, goes in search of his origins and his people: the Eliatropes. During his journey, he is joined by other travellers: Ruel Stroud, an old, crafty, avaricious bounty hunter, Percedal, a young, brainless, but exceedingly brave warrior, Amalia, a fugitive princess as beautiful as she is rebellious, her bodyguard Evangelyne, who is much more down-to-earth, and finally his most faithful companion, Az, a greedy, clumsy but loyal Tofu.

Ankama wishes to thank the organizers of Cartoons on the Bay and all the people who believed in this French company from the beginning.
