VRChat secures $10m Series C funding

New investor Makers Fund joins HTC to help "open unique opportunities" in virtual reality space

Virtual reality social platform VRChat this week closed a Series C investment round worth $10 million.

Along with continued support from HTC, Brightstone Venture Capital, and GFR Fund, the latest round sees Makers Fund join as a new investor.

Released in February 2017, VRChat is an online social platform of community-created VR content.

The latest investment round will allow VRChat to continue growing the platform and surrounding community.

"Our goal is to connect people and enable them to interact as if they were in the same room," said CEO Graham Gaylor.

"Any kind of social experience you could want should exist, and if it doesn't, somebody should be able to create it.

"Makers Fund has deep experience with these types of platforms and will help VRChat move towards its goal."

In a statement, VRChat said HTC -- along with new partner Makers Fund -- will "open unique opportunities" to help develop in the VR space.

"VRChat has cracked the code of creating engaging social experiences in VR," said Viveport president and senior vice president of VR at HTC, Rikard Steiber.

"We are excited to continue working closely with VRChat as they help people connect with each other and the communities they love the most in VR."
