Vision Award Finalists

Indie games get nods.

SAN FRANCISCO - Feb. 16, 2011 - Direct2Drive (D2D), a leader in the digital distribution of video games, today announced the five finalists for the 13th Annual Independent Games Festival's (IGF) Direct2Drive Vision Award, recognizing the best indie games of 2011 as voted on by industry experts.

The Direct2Drive Vision Award honors independent developers and the groundbreaking work they do to present fresh ideas and innovation across the gaming industry.

The winner of the third annual Direct2Drive Vision Award will receive:

A $10,000 cash prize Distribution and promotion on Direct2Drive.com    One "major label" license for GameSpy Technology including: Software development kits for unlimited Daily Active Users Access to professional level developer support A GameSpy Technology GDC 2011 swag pack Free admission to GDC 2012 "Indie games have been among our industry's greatest creative assets for years, generating imaginative and fresh game design led by some of the most passionate individuals in the entire game space," said Julie Uhrman, GM/VP, Digital Distribution, IGN Entertainment. "The Vision Award is one of several ways that Direct2Drive and GameSpy Technology are supporting and recognizing the 'unsung heroes' of our community. The five finalists for the 2011 Direct2Drive Vision Award are:

Flotilla - An intriguing, slow-motion tactical space combat game from Blendo Games  Confetti Carnival - A puzzle action title where gamers earn style points for smashing and blowing up colorful gummy creatures into confetti bombs, created by   SpikySnail Games Hazard: The Journey for Life - A philosophical first-person puzzle game that is as much about exploring abstract schools of thought as it is about gameplay, from Alexander Bruce's    Demruth Night Sky - Originally a finalist from Nicalis at IGF 2009, then called Night Game, this evocative update tasks gamers with navigating a curious crystal ball through challenging yet serene silhouetted environments Amnesia: The Dark Descent - An award-winning, first person survival horror game from Frictional Games , the creators of the renowned indie hit, Penumbra On Wednesday, March 2, a group of indie game developers representing IGN's recently announced Indie Open House initiative will gather to present the 2011 Vision Award to the winner live at the 13 th Annual IGF Awards Show.
