Virtual Soccer Academy Kicks off at Walsall Football Club

Must-have game on CD Rom makes the perfect Christmas gift

14 December 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Walsall fans are about to live their dream - to be asked to play for their club. This chance of a lifetime is down to the latest "must have" computer game, Virtual Soccer Academy which takes players through an eight week football academy training programme and guarantees each buyer a trial at Walsall Football Club.

In Virtual Soccer Academy, players make their way - slightly nervously - to the chairman's office to sit down and discuss their contract, just like a football star. Then they take position in the dressing room and meet the team: they're in on team talk and training sessions from now on. Players can select their 'lucky boots' and learn new tactics as they develop skills and prepare for stardom.

Virtual Soccer Academy is taking football training to a new level and the interest shown by the top clubs is "overwhelming", according to its producers. A powerful CD-ROM - part pro-football experience, part coaching video - it encourages children of all abilities to train alongside their stars, improve their football skills and increase their fitness. It also gives a "free" trial at the club to every supporter that joins and completes the Walsall Virtual Soccer Academy.

Game developer, Peter Fulford, has worked his magic so Virtual Soccer Academy gives every child the 'real deal'. He says: "The product is for any young supporter who loves football and has the desire to pursue a healthy hobby and take hints from the proos.

We're saying 'come into the club, meet the players, learn the skills and live the dream'. And who knows - through the opportunity of a guaranteed trial, they may be playing on the haloed turf for Paul Merson."

Walsall FC First Team manager, Paul Merson, comments: "I've played Virtual Soccer Academy at home with my kids and the footage included in the game blew me away. It's excellent for keen youngsters."

Mick Halsall, Youth Team coach at Walsall FC, adds: "We can't wait to see what talent Virtual Soccer Academy can uncover: I only wish there had been something around like this when I was a lad! This game will bring thousands of young people back into football grounds, and allow children and teenagers to live the dream and get a pro-trial at a professional football club they support."

Virtual Soccer Academy costs £24.99 and is available from Walsall's club shop, online at http://www.saddlers.co.uk and from selected Asda stores throughout the UK. The game is suitable for children aged six or over.
