Vermintide II outperforms lifetime revenue of first game in just two weeks

PC-only sequel already more successful that multi-platform predecessor

In just two weeks, Vermintide II has generated more revenue than its predecessor did in two years.

Martin Wahlund, CEO of developer Fatshark, confirmed the PC-only launch has outstripped the original game's sales performance across both PC and console.

"Right now, we have outsold, in terms of revenue, the lifetime revenue of the original Vermintide, and on PC-only," he said in an interview with PCGamesInsider.biz.

"We had high hopes, we enjoyed playing it internally. We knew we had a good game. We didn't have a huge marketing budget, but we got a lot of support, both from the media, from streamers and from gamers all over the world.

"It's been fantastic for us. We're a relatively small independent company so it's tough to get through. We knew we had a good game with the first one, and we had a good following, but you never know with a sequel."

Vermintide II was met with an overwhelmingly positive critical reception and its commercial success demonstrates the power of a good reputation.

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz earlier this year, Wahlund outlined Fatshark's approach to building a worthy successor and how to make the most of a licensed property.

"The biggest concern for me was that we tried to do too much, or even too little," he said.

"We try to stay calm and aligned with the vision of the first game but still having enough to justify the sequel and that's the balance but I feel we've done that really well."
