US Charts: Pokemon and Fable dominate in September

The latest figures from NPD show Nintendo's Pokemon Fire Red topping the US sales chart for September, leading from Microsoft's Fable at number two and stablemate Pokemon Leaf Green at number three.

The latest figures from NPD show Nintendo's Pokemon Fire Red topping the US sales chart for September, leading from Microsoft's Fable at number two and stablemate Pokemon Leaf Green at number three.

Combined sales of the two Pokemon titles topped 1.2 million units, marking a hugely successful debut for the latest games in the franchise, while Microsoft's Fable broke Xbox sales records and sold over 600,000 units during the month.

Further down the chart, there was a strong debut for Lucasarts' Star Wars: Battlefront, which took both fifth and sixth places in the chart - with the Xbox version selling marginally better than the PS2 version, and combined sales between the two of over half a million units.

Square Enix also had a strong debut for its PS2 RPG title Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, which came in at number seven in the chart - outselling two of EA Sports' headline titles, NBA Live 2005 (No.7) and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (No. 10), in the process.

In fact, this was one of EA's weakest months in the chart for some time, thanks to the strength of the competition. The market leader's top ranked title was Madden NFL 2005, which came in at number four and has now sold over four million units in total.
