US Charts: Another good month for Cube as Crystal Chronicles goes top

Square Enix's first Final Fantasy outing on the GameCube has given Nintendo's diminutive console another major hit in the USA, with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles taking the top spot in February's US software chart.

Square Enix's first Final Fantasy outing on the GameCube has given Nintendo's diminutive console another major hit in the USA, with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles taking the top spot in February's US software chart.

The strength of the Final Fantasy brand helped to drive the multiplayer-focused title to the top of the sales rankings for the full month, ahead of major releases such as EA's James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing.

The British super-spy's latest videogame outing debuted with a number five placing on the PS2, with the Xbox version popping up at number ten - a respectable enough performance even if it doesn't match the title's chart-topping run in the UK.

The second highest new entry in the chart was also a Nintendo published title, in fact, with Metroid Zero Mission on the GBA coming in at number three - just behind last month's number one, EA Sports' NFL Street.

Other notable new entries in the chart are Sony's Jet Li: Rise To Honor (PS2), which debuted at number six and launches in Europe next month, and another Sony title, Champions of Norrath: Realms of Everquest (PS2) is at number seven, while Sega's Sonic Heroes - another number one title in the UK - is a new entry at number 11 on PS2, and down 11 places to number 13 on Cube.

The highest ranked Xbox title in the chart is, once again, Halo - which is down one place to number eight in the ranking, assisted no doubt by its now-discounted price point. Altogether the top 20 features 11 PS2 titles, and three each from the GameCube, Game Boy Advance and Xbox.
