Pressure group Gamers' Voice lobbies MPs to support tax relief.

TO NEWS/POLITICAL DESKS

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, UK – June 29th, 2010

Today, in response to the disappointing failure by the Chancellor George Osborne MP during the Budget to introduce promised tax breaks for the UK video games industry, Gamers’ Voice has begun contacting MPs asking for their support.

Stewart Hosie MP tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM 316)[i] “COMPUTER GAMES TAX RELIEF” supporting tax relief for the UK gaming industry and Gamers’ Voice has emailed MPs asking them to sign in support. Gamers’ Voice will be running a list on our website detailing all those MPs who have responded and signed the new EDM.

Gamers' Voice is also in contact with both the major industry organisations, TIGA and ELSPA, to organise our efforts jointly on this issue.

Gamers’ Voice Chairman Paul Gibson said

"Noting the thirty year heritage the UK has enjoyed in developing computer and video games, Britain is more than capable of becoming a world leader in this field.

We urge the coalition to reconsider its decision to withdraw the tax relief promised by the previous government and all major political parties prior to the election. This will have a serious detrimental effect to the continuing growth and success of the UK computer and video game development industry if the government refuses to enact this relief."

Notes to Editor

Gamers' Voice is an independent pressure group representing video and computer gamers in the UK which seeks to act as a conduit to make our voice heard in the government and mainstream media

In November 2009, Tom Watson MP founded Gamers' Voice on Facebook in order to bring together gamers from across the UK in response to negative articles on gamers in the UK media; Gamers’ Voice has over 16,000 members.
