TIGA applauds MP Tom Watson for sticking up for us.

November 10, 2009

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today welcomed MP Tom Watson's championing of the games industry in Parliament. Tom Watson defended the industry in an exchange with Keith Vaz MP in Parliament over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:

It is greatly encouraging to see MPs like Tom Watson standing up for the industry in Parliament. TIGA instigated the creation of the All Party Group on the Computer and Video Games Industry in Parliament in the summer.

Parliamentarians who recognise the success, relevance and value of video games industry now have an effective vehicle with which to raise the profile of the industry still further in political circles.

The UK games industry is successful economically, embedded culturally and has great potential in terms of providing educational and training games. TIGA will support MPs like Tom Watson to help dispel the myths about the industry and give it the recognition that it deserves.
