Supercell is 2017's highest-earning mobile publisher

Apptopia data reveals biggest mobile publishers of the year

Supercell was the highest earning mobile publisher of 2017, according to data provided provided to by mobile intelligence firm Apptopia.

Meanwhile Monster Strike, developed by Japanese social networking service Mixi, was the top earning app, followed by Honor of Kings, Fate/Grand Order, Pokémon GO, and Clash Royale.

It's worth noting that Tencent's Honor of Kings is among the top earning apps, despite only being available in China until today when it arrived in North and South America under the moniker Arena of Valor.

Interestingly, the highest earning apps of 2017 are not mirrored in the top five highest earning publishers, with only Supercell (Clash Royale) and Niantic (Pokémon GO) making an appearance. Supercell took the top spot for revenue earned this year, followed by King, Electronic Arts, Machine Zone, and Niantic.

There is an even greater disparity when looking at the number of game releases from a single publisher. Big Fish Games topped the list having released a staggering 129 titles. Coming in at distant second was Oceanhouse Media with 49, followed by Ketchapp with 43, Voodoo with 40, and Capcom and Bandai Namco both with 38.

Despite offering portfolios which dwarf the competition, none of the developers broke into the top five app revenue, publisher revenue, or even worldwide downloads.

Electronic Arts enjoyed the most downloads in 2017, followed by Supercell, King, Zynga, and Playrix.

Apptopia was unable to provide exact revenues or downloads, but will be revealing more insight with our Year in Numbers infographic later this week.
