Thousands of pounds in prizes for Trueplayerz UK charity video game tournaments

Across the country, people are preparing for the UK's first ever charity video games tournament, taking place next weekend in London on Sunday 25th September.

Launched by British fashion label Joystick Junkies and sponsored by UK Online the monthly Trueplayerz events bring people together to win cash for charity and score great prizes for themselves. The unique concept with Trueplayerz is that people pay to play and the winner of the tournament gets to choose which charity receives all the proceeds.

The UK games industry has come together to provide thousands of pounds of prizes in games and products for competitors to win at each stage of the monthly tournaments. Prizes are being donated by UK Online, Eidos, Capcom, EA, Atari, Konami, Activision, Madcatz, Saitek, Guillemot and lots more to come. Top prizes on the day include FIFA 2006 iPod Shuffles, brand new releases from Electronic Arts and one year 8 Mb broadband accounts from UK Online worth over £400 each.

You'll also be able to drive, kick, shoot or score your way to stardom, as music and entertainment channel, TMF, will be filming at Trueplayerz on Sunday 25th September. TMF will also be screening an exclusive preview of the brand new TV series Game One, airing every Sunday at 3.30pm. The channel will be giving an exclusive Game One iPod cover to all competitors.

Players will have a choice of what to compete on with four of the Autumn's top new releases including Burnout Revenge, FIFA 2006 and an exclusive for Trueplayerz; Battlefield 2 (Modern Combat) as well as the classic 2D beat 'em up action of Capcom Fighting Jam.

The games industry is also turning out to support the event with Capcom's PR Manager Sam Brace performing with his band The Alps fresh from their UK tour, whilst industry magazine MCV's editor Johnny Minkley takes up his guitar to lead Gunstar Heroes whilst journalist and DJ Steve Boxer will be bringing some top tunes to keep the party going.

You can pick up flyers in Gamestation stores around London whilst the events are also being supported by top gaming site GamesRadar.com and Games Master magazine or check out the official website at www.joystickjunkies.com/trueplayerz where you can register for the tournament or just find out more about the events.
